Pierre and Monique Luneau-Papin's estate has been in existence since the early 18th century when it was already planted with Melon de Boutgogne, the Muscadet varietal. Pierre and Monique are the eighth generation of winemakers in the family. Because of the privileged terroir of the villages where their vineyards are planted the Luneau family has produced many small cuvees from several vineyard sites. The grapes from each plot are vinified separately to reflect the specific soil and growing conditions of each part of the vineyard. The estate has a lot of old vines--anywhere from 40 years to 65 years of age! Clos des Allees is one of their great sites characterizing the soil which is schist and gneiss. The harvest is done by hand, which is rare for muscadet and the wine is made in the traditional method--6 months of aging on the yeast lees and aged in stainless steel. It has an intensely herbal nose, spicy character and structure and bold citrus fruit.
$33/btl.
